I decided to create a Discord bot to experiment with the discord.py library and have some fun while I’m at it. If you don’t know what Discord is, it’s a messaging app primarily used by gamers that can be used to talk and text with people. I use Discord on a daily basis since it makes interacting with friends quick and simple. However, there are some times where I want to socialize without actually having to talk. I prefer to not make too much noise when my parents are busy or I’m just not in the mood for verbal speech…

After one month into my summer vacation, I’ve been picking up various programming skills like recursion and learning about different data structures like linked lists and heaps. It’s all preparation for the next year’s HP Codewars, since I want to do well in it. Unfortunately, self-learning and staying motivated to learn all this material is tough for me. Thankfully, a few days ago, I gained a burst of confidence from actually being able to apply the things I learned over the past month.

So my friend sent me a problem that he was stuck on and I was quite surprised…

Introduction

Instead of modern games like Valorant and League Legends, sometimes I and possible others, want to kick back and play games like Pokémon and Final Fantasy. Unfortunately, some of these classics are unavailable on newer consoles and PC’s. Thankfully, I have found a way to turn your phone or computer into a working Game Boy Advance.

Mobile

For those using an Android device, you will want to install an app called My Boy!. This app is free and will allow you to play Game Boy Advance games. After installation, you will want to find some games. Just enter the title of…

Spring break has recently ended, but I didn’t want my programming skill to worsen as school is gradually coming to an end. I am now programming when I have enough time and when I feel like it. I encountered a problem that gave me a lot of trouble and almost brought me to the verge of tears. This problem is back on Project Euler, the website I used in my first article.

It states: By listing the first six prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, and 13, we can see that the 6th prime is 13. …

Recently, I’ve been doing some programming on a website called Codeforces. I thought it would be a good chance to refine my programming skills, since I’m on spring break. Codeforces provides an archive of many problems with ranging difficulties. Since I’m quite inexperienced in competitive programming, I was only capable of doing problems that were tagged with a rating of 800. I managed to complete around 10 of these problems in a row with little to no difficulty, but encountered some more challenges when I reached one called ‘Calculating Function.’

Earlier this month, the club I was in gave me the option to sign up for a programming competition called HP Codewars. It was a virtual competition where competitors try to solve 30 programming problems in 3 hours. The goal was to earn as many points as possible by successfully solving these problems. I decided to give it a try with my friend and we managed to place around 2nd in the club. This was my first time ever programming in a competitive scene and I hope to share some possible tips and techniques to other programming rookies.

As a quarantined 14 year old in remote learning, I wanted to try something new with Python. I was doing some research on some new libraries to try out and I came across one called PyToolz. Essentially, this library allows you to do functional programming in Python without having to learn a functional language like Lisp or Haskell.

What is functional programming? It’s a way of programming that uses pure functions, functions that return the same outputs for the same inputs, to construct programs. Let’s look at the differences between conventional and functional programming. …
